The Dead Weather (pictured above in a David Swanson photo) have done a fantastic 20-minute live session for From The Basement. Songs performed included “Hang You From The Heavens” and “Treat Me Like Your Mother.” Killer stuff! To watch the session, click here.

In other news from The Dead Weather, the band announced during interviews with UK radio stations that they have enough songs to record a second album. Jack White told BBC 6 Music, “It is true, we’ve got songs coming out of every pore, and every orifice, and every digit, but mostly the digits.” White also told NME Radio, “We’d love to have the second record out within a year of the first one.”

For more on The Dead Weather’s upcoming second album, see the articles from BBC 6 Music and NME.com. There is video of an interview that the band did this week with NME Radio in the NME.com link.

The Dead Weather are doing a free show at Shoreditch Church in London tonight.

The Dead Weather’s video for “I Cut Like A Buffalo,” the latest single from the band’s Horehound album, is now available for viewing online. The video’s a bit bizarre, but it works really well with the song. You can judge for yourself by watching the video below:

The Kills Alive and Well

If you had any doubts about The Kills’ future, doubt no more. The team of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince is still writing and jamming, despite Alison’s recent work with Dead Weather. In fact, Rolling Stone posted some acoustic footage of Alison and Jamie (above) jamming in their NY hotel room (after a Dead Weather gig!).

The new and improved Powerline A.D. Web site is now featuring my review of The Dead Weather’s performance at New York City’s Terminal 5 last Thursday night, July 16th. At the show, The Dead Weather (pictured above in a David Swanson photo) performed material from their recently released debut album, Horehound, to a sold-out and very enthusiastic audience.

The Dead Weather Premiere Striking Video For “Treat Me Like Your Mother”

Posted in Music, Rock Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 16, 2009 by John Curley

The Dead Weather -- David Swanson Photo 2

The Dead Weather (pictured above in a David Swanson photo) have just premiered the video for their latest single, “Treat Me Like Your Mother.” The video, which was directed by Jonathan Glazer, is quite stunning and features band members Jack White and Alison Mosshart firing machine guns at each other. And the song is terrific as well.

To watch the video for “Treat Me Like Your Mother” by The Dead Weather, click below:

The Dead Weather’s debut album, Horehound, was released earlier this week. The band is a side project, and is comprised of vocalist Alison Mosshart of The Kills, drummer/vocalist Jack White of The White Stripes, guitarist Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age, and bassist Jack Lawrence of The Greenhorns. White and Lawrence are also members of another side project, The Raconteurs.

The Dead Weather will be performing live at Terminal 5 in New York City this week on Thursday and Friday nights, July 16th and 17th. I will be attending the Thursday night performance with Pat Prince, the founder of this blog. A review of the show will be forthcoming on the main Powerline A.D. site.

New Dead Weather Release Has 6 Golden Tickets

Posted in Rock Music with tags , , , , , , , on July 14, 2009 by Patrick Prince

dead_weather

What is this, a Wonka bar? Is Jack White Willie Wonka?! These are questions we can never answer. However, the new Dead Weather disc is out today and 6 of them will contain a golden ticket.

And you are not allowed to break into song like Charlie if you get one.

But what do you win? A tour, yes, but not of a chocolate factory.

Here’s a statement from singer Alison Mosshart herself (oddly enough, on The Kills MySpace blog):

The Dead Weather are releasing their new debut album Horehound TODAY! You can check out videos and songs from the album via their explore page (http://horehound.warnerreprise.com) or via their facebook application (http://apps.facebook.com/thedeadweather).

Both include links to download a free mp3 of “Treat Me Like Your Mother.”

If you haven’t checked out the controversial Jonathan Glazer video for “Treat Me Like Your Mother” visit the band’s youtube channel  (http://youtube.com/thedeadweathertv) to see it along with tons of other videos and live clips.

There are 6 GOLDEN TICKETS hidden within albums of Horehound. Find one and you will win an expense paid trip to Nashville, TN to tour the famous Third Man Records.

Good luck!

Yes. Good luck. And I wonder if any success with this project will kill The Kills’ future. No golden ticket for Jamie Hince.

Jack White and Alison Mosshart’s Dead Weather Cover Doom Metal Forefathers Pentagram

Posted in Rock Music with tags , , , , , , , , on July 9, 2009 by Patrick Prince

The super-project The Dead Weather recorded a cover of Pentagram‘s “Forever My Queen” on their new 7″, out now through The Vault, White’s new online subscription social network (7 bucks a month) from his Third Man Records.

A helluva cover, this is a good indication of how good (in a heavy sense) this Dead Weather project can be.
