Video By the Band The Bezerker Causes Controversy on YouTube

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 7, 2009 by Patrick Prince

A band like The Berzerker trying to be controversial?!… what a stretch! Isn’t this the same band who tries to make Slipknot sound and look like the Beach Boys? I guess the real shock is that this extreme Australian industrial metal band covers a pop song, as in the once popular T.A.T.U.’s “All the Things She Said.” Then releasing a video of it with simulated underage lesbian scenes. Viva Lolitapalooza, I guess.

It’s only been a day or so since the video was first posted and it already received a record number of complaints. In fact, to view it, you have to sign in and then confirm your birth date, restricted to 18+:

This video or group may contain content that is inappropriate for some users, as flagged by YouTube’s user community.

By clicking “Confirm”, you are agreeing that all videos or groups flagged by the YouTube community will be viewable by this account.

But, really, the video’s not that outrageous. It’s all suggestive BS to get eyeballs and stir the PR pot. This is actually the least outrageous the band has ever been. Don’t take my word for it. Listen to their music. Watch their other videos. Read their lyrics.

The Berzerker’s version of this crappy pop song will not be released as a single, even though there has been heavy demand for it.. As a statement warns on one of the YouTube consoles for “All the Things She Said”:

This version will NOT be released, (please stop asking) Its just the Berzerker …

Exactly.

Metal Band Getting Criticism For Taking Name From Serial Killer, Ian Brady

Posted in Heavy Metal, slam with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 11, 2008 by Patrick Prince

English citizens are shocked by a U.K. metal band, Gates of Janus (above), taking their name from the book title of moors murderer Ian Brady.

Are people really surprised by this??!!

Brady’s killings were committed in the UK a long time ago, in the 60s.

The band replied with an intelligent, well-written statement:

“Our lyrics do not ‘glorify’ the murders, merely tell part of a story that is ingrained in our local history. Even 20 years ago, bands like Slayer were writing about religious hypocrisy, and historical events such as the Holocaust, and they have consistently said they are not themselves supportive of those events. Bands such as Children of Bodom and The Black Dahlia Murder are also named after famous murders, and they are successful international acts. Outside of metal, artists such as The Smiths have dealt with the moors murders as well.”

What everyone overlooked is that Gates of Janus is a decent sounding band of the extreme metal genre known as Death Metal — if you’re into that sort of thing. I have never been into Death Metal but I do appreciate the sounds of it — the riffs, the tempo changes. Never been a big fan of growling-away vocals on extremely morose subjects, however. Not a good combo for me. That’s just me.

I’d never refuse to listen to a band because of their name, or judge them by their name. I mean, I once liked a French Metal band called Satan’s Jokers.

I’d probably listen to anything over Children of Bodom though — THOSE KEYBOARDS!

The Beauty of the Band Total Fucking Destruction: Nihilism and Nonsense

Posted in Heavy Metal, slam with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 17, 2008 by Patrick Prince

C’mon. How could you not like a band called Total Fucking Destruction? If you like slam… if you like grindcore… If you like your nihilism filled with biting humor then Total Fucking Destruction is the band for you.

Sometimes the world is so ridiculous you have to laugh at it, right? This is TFD’s mission. A mission that has been drummer Richard Hoak’s for the last ten years:

“TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION is a celebration of the slow-motion apocalypse already in progress. Our songs are true stories of life in the global techno/military/entertainment complex and represent the future/present of human civilization… Time is running out, the future is now and we are participating in the end of history. It’s fucking awesome.”

How’s that for social criticism?

Now the band is streaming a new track, “Non-Existence Of The Self”, from their third full-length album, with a hilarious title, Peace Love, And Total Fucking Destruction, due out October 28 in North America on Enucleation Records.

Stream “Non-Existence Of The Self” at www.myspace.com/totalfuckingdestruction. Even if you don’t like grindcore you’ll be amused, which is a lot more than you can say about some bands.

Sophia Di, the Next Metal God(dess)

Posted in Heavy Metal, slam with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on September 12, 2008 by Patrick Prince

Well, as far as female metal guitarists go, there’s been Lita Ford, and even the Great Kat, but none maybe as young and talented as guitarist Sophia Di (above) from New Zealand. She is lead guitarist for the metal band Beneath The Silence (great name!) and only 15, and already gaining critical acclaim.

When Words Don’t Suffice is Beneath The Silence’s new album. Very powerful. The band is pretty damn good as far as Metal-Core is concerned. Guitars sound excellent, the guitar leads excellent, the singing growly but not too growly… the band’s current sound needs to be a little more refined, maybe… but they’re young and have a shot. Personally, I think this band is going to be a huge force in a couple years.

Slipknot To Put On New Masks

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , , , on June 28, 2008 by Patrick Prince

With all the posing going on in the photo above (an alleged unmasked photo of the band drifting around the blogosphere) maybe Slipknot should continue wearing masks forever. They’re not nearly as intimidating without them.

Anyway, when the clock strikes midnight on Tuesday July 1st, spinner.com will reveal the new masks of Slipknot. As P.T. Barnum of an announcement as their show and music, I’m sure they will get many eyeballs.

The band usually changes masks with each album release. These new beauties will be for the new All Hope Is Gone. If that’s the case, I think the new masks should be of the current U.S. administration. Furthermore, if Slipknot needs more masks to wear, Rob Zombie is selling some on eBay! However, not sure Rob has nine masks to cover all the members of the band.

Below is a People = Shit live. The lyrics are hilarious, in an outrageous sense, but then again look at the stage show itself.

Cradle of Filth Offends the Law

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , , , , , on June 24, 2008 by Patrick Prince

The Australian law, that is.

Teenager arrested for wearing a Cradle of Filth t-shirt that stated Jesus a cunt with a depiction of a nun masturbating.

As offensive as it may be, the kid should have the right express himself, or, more likely, wear his favorite band’s t-shirt.

All I can say is.. that’s the beauty of America: freedom of expression.

Death Metal Geeks Til the End

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , , on May 23, 2008 by Patrick Prince

I never really dug Job For a Cowboy‘s music. Not a big Death Metal fan anyway. But I have to give them credit for being up front about their social awkwardness. When asked by College Times about groupies, singer Jonny Davy responded:

“If a girl came up to us, we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves.”

NIce. I love it. I love his honesty. All of a sudden I’m a Job For a Cowboy fan.

Heavy Metal in the Holy Land

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , , , , on April 10, 2008 by Patrick Prince

Heavy metal may be suited for the Middle East after all, especially in a sacred place like Jerusalem. The city had their annual Metalfest Tuesday night set to high expectations. As one fan put it, heavy metal and the holy land make a good match:

“Fear, we live by fear since we were young. People tell us the Holocaust, the Arabs, we live with fear. In metal concerts you come you see your people, it’s a safe place to loosen up.”

Bands like Acropolis (they call themselves “Hebrew Metal”) and Shworchtsechaye (literal meaning is Black Beast, vocalist Yehi’s photo is shown above) seemed to be popular acts at the show. In fact, Shworchtsechaye is a real decent extreme metal band. Click on their name and check out their MySpace page.

Personally, I would love to hear a metal version of the Hava Nagila. Oi vey! You get so tired of the traditional version.

Listen to a radio broadcast report on the festival’s bands here.
