Axl Rose: Slash is a “Cancer” and a “Whore for the Limelight”

Yeah, right. And all this coming from what many musicians consider to be a walking-and-talking human tumor.

Axl Rose was speaking to AOL’s Spinner.com about any chance of a Guns N’ Roses reunion. You know, of the Appetite For Destruction kind. And the trash-talk express pulled up.

“I suppose Duff (McKagan) could play guitar on something somewhere but there’s zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash. In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided — and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters the better.”

And as reported on Yahoo! News:

Rose was not even a fan of Slash’s guitar playing, claiming he has lost his edge and seems to be more passionate about being “a whore for the limelight.” As for the other former bandmates, Rose said rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin‘s recent guest turns on stage with the band were fun, but that his old Indiana buddy was not the most reliable collaborator.

And on the long-suffering drummer Steven Adler collaborating with him?:

“assorted ambulance-chasing attorneys … One gig or even a couple songs could mean years of behind-the-scenes legal aftermath.”

Wow. Looks like we are in the deep end of an Axl Rose mood swing right now.

I, for one, am now glad that there will be no reunion. I’m not sure I could stand it.

Axl Rose Accuses Guitar Hero of “low life chicanery”

In an open letter, Axl goes off on the producers of Guitar Hero, and their use of “Welcome to the Jungle” (with Slash):

“Yes, Slash was in Guns and on ‘…Jungle’ and he has rights to perform it, but not to be represented in this context in association with Guns. And since they weren’t granted the license it’ll take some sorting.”

“[Slash] being [in] ‘Guitar Hero’‘s fine but not when Activison is using ‘…Jungle’… unauthorized.”

“I wasn’t broadsided. I read about it as it moved along but Activision continually denied it right up to the release. That’s some low life chicanery on all their parts.

Welcome to the Jungle indeed!

Critics called the letter “garbled.”

Axl seems to be our new Amy Winehouse, here on the PAD blog.

Chinese Democracy. We have “Cover A” art on Best Buy

Posted in Heavy Metal, Rock Music with tags , , , , , , , on October 16, 2008 by Patrick Prince

The first of the three alternating covers of Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy has been posted by Best Buy (pre-order).

Not that I was expecting a controversial cover like the original art of Appetite For Destruction, but this is kind of a letdown. It took 14 years to come up with a cover of a bike with a basket?? WTF?!!

The track listing for Chinese Democracy is as follows:

01. Chinese Democracy
02. Scraped
03. Shackler’s Revenge
04. Street Of Dreams
05. If The World
06. Better
07. This I Love
08. There Was A Time
09. Riad N’ The Bedovins
10. Sorry
11. I.R.S.
12. Catcher
13. Madagascar
14. Prostitute

Think of it this way: One song a year. One song for every year it took Axl Rose to create this thing

RoadRunner’s blabbermouth pointed out an interesting note: “Street Of Dreams” is believed by some GUNS N’ ROSES fans to be the song formerly known as “The Blues”.

Guns N’ Roses: Novemeber 25th

Posted in Heavy Metal, Rock Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 8, 2008 by Patrick Prince

Is this the date that Axl Rose (right) comes out of the closet? No. But Nov. 25th is the TENTATIVE date that Best Buy employees were given for a release date of Guns N’ Roses long, LONG- awaited album, Chinese Democracy. Best Buy will have certain exclusive rights of the release (a little more respectable than giving them to Wal*Mart).

But from the message boards, Guns fans are already aware of all this news and are… well, ecstatic. They should be cautiously ecstatic. I don’t believe it until I see the CD sitting in the shelves at Best Buy, and even then — if I buy the damn thing — I won’t believe until I see an actual disc in the jewel case. And then sound coming out of my stereo.

Can’t everyone just be happy with one of the greatest rock albums of all time — Appetite For Destruction — and then call it a day? You can’t top that for GNR and why should you. THAT was the real Guns N’ Roses. This Axl project should be called something else. Really.

In the meantime, if you want a taste of the new Axl GNR and don’t want to buy Rock Band 2 to hear “Shackler’s Revenge,” the closing credits of the movie, Body of Lies, coming out this weekend, will feature the GNR song “If the World” (this, however, go figure, will not be on the soundtrack disc).

All I want is a Dr. Pepper, okay. Really. Get that shit out, Axl.
