Lost Rolling Stones

Lost photos of the Rolling Stones that were taken by Bob Bonis, the road manager of their first American tours, will be displayed (see a weird one above of a mid-60s concert on a high school field “gone out-of-control”) at a gallery in NYC. Called the Not Fade Away Gallery, located at 901 Broadway at 20th Street, it will feature more than 50 of the “lost” photos, some of which they shared exclusively with The NY Post.

Speaking of “lost” Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood had been given an ultimatum by the band — sober up or get out (according to the media). And The NY Post, the guardians of  trash-talk, recently labeled Keith Richards a hypocrite:

“RONNIE Wood‘s bandmates aren’t exactly leading by example. The Rolling Stone, who has a history of alcohol abuse, was told by guitarist Keith Richards to sober up or risk being dumped from the group’s upcoming US tour, according to British press reports. But it didn’t stop Richards from drinking the night away with friends at Plunge rooftop bar at the Gansevoort in Miami. Wood, 61, is still seeing Ekaterina Ivanova, the 20-year-old Russian cocktail waitress for whom he left his wife of 23 years in July.”

What BS. One night of good-time drinking cannot be compared to Wood’s existential bender. Let’s get real here, NY Post!

Snow Patrol Frontman Survives Grip of Alcoholism

Vocalist Gary Lightbody claims he nearly pulled a Nick Cage in Leaving Las Vegas from drinking too much. Well, he didn’t use those words, but you get the image. Here are his words. He nearly died from drinking, he told The Sun:

“There was a six month period where I was completely out of control,” he admitted. “I was a fucking mess, but just couldn’t see it”

Gary credits his drummer, Jonny Quinn, for saving his life, getting him on the straight and narrow. The experience inspired Lightbody to also write a new track called “Disaster Bitton” on the new album, A Hundred Million Suns, due out in the Fall.

Pogues’ Shane MacGowan is Ordered to Stop Drinking

Posted in Rock Music with tags , , , , , , , on August 5, 2008 by Patrick Prince

If Shane MacGowan can do give up drink, anyone can. But for a man who has become a pop icon for drinking, it will be hard.. and absolutely weird to see him sober. His teeth may improve, however (see above).

Shane’s father,  Maurice MacGowan, 78, has been telling the British Press that Shane:

“must heed the doctor’s advice. He has had a very good run on the drink but he must remember he is mortal.”

This sound eerily familiar to the Amy Winehouse story.

For one, it has been reported that Shane is suffering from hepatitis.

Scott Weiland the Male Amy Winehouse?

Posted in Rock Music with tags , , , , , , , , on August 3, 2008 by Patrick Prince

This is a big deal to Stone Temple Pilots’ fans… the band has reunited and finally touring again, and there is frontman Weiland at a Arizona show last week f*ed up and stumbling around the stage, falling back into the drums set, singing the wrong lyrics intentionally (“Masturbations Kill” to “Conversations Kill”), babbling incoherently about things (like Velvet Revolver), and acting like he wanted to be somewhere else (maybe a dive bar).

According to the following review of the show, the performance was a vocal horror show where the other members of the band should feel humiliated — it even goes as far as calling Weiland the male Amy Winehouse. And the video below is a sample of the stumbling and bumbling.

Ronnie Wood Lost and Found… And Then Off to Rehab

Posted in Rock Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , on July 16, 2008 by Patrick Prince

Ronnie Wood’s son, Jesse, convinced his father to end his recent bender, end his sexual relationship with a young Russian waitress (Ekaterina Ivanova) who is younger than his 23-year old marriage, and check himself into rehab for the seventh time in his life.

And maybe, maybe, save his marriage to Jo Wood.

It’s still unclear if Jo will take him back. As far as the press knows, the last time she spoke to Ronnie he was still bedding down with Ekaterina Ivanova in his well-liquored mansion in Ireland, and she sounded fed up:

“Ronnie told me she was staying there and I said, ‘OK – get on with it and have a drink, go mad. Drink your guts up’.”

Just think, in 1990 Ronnie Wood was told to stop drinking or die in six months. That was 18 years ago.

Ekaterina Ivanova is fine. She is thinking of selling her story of the affair to a tabloid.

Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood MIA and On a Bender With a Lolita

Posted in Rock Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on July 11, 2008 by Patrick Prince

61, on two bottles of vodka a day, downing shots of “Jagerbombs” (Jagermeister and Red Bull), and sleazing around with an 18 year old Russian, Ekaterina Ivanova (below). This is the picture that the British tabloids are painting of Rolling Stone guitarist Ronnie Wood.

43 years apart, perhaps Wood is trying to follow in his ‘ol bandmate’s, Bill Wyman, footsteps. Young at heart, so to speak. But this is beyond a mid-aged crisis. This is a senior moment.

The Sun, for instance, describes Ronnie’s “bender” with great detail — however, the sources are mostly anonymous.

It just seemed like yesterday when Ronnie was all wrapped up in his painting inventory. Now he’s painting “Eka.”

All I can say about this is: My God, she looks young!

Warrant’s Jani Lane and Members of Great White to Start Beatles Tribute Band

Posted in 80s Metal, 80s Rock, Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 11, 2008 by Patrick Prince

With Jani Lane’s MO of late, are we going to witness drunken karaoke of Beatles songs or a straight-up, sober hair metal renditions of Beatles classics? Hopefully, the latter. That would make it worthwhile and interesting.

Besides Jani Lane (upper right), the band will consist of Jack Russell (center) and Michael Lardie (left) of Great White. They plan of releasing a Beatles tribute album and then tour. The name being tossed around is Revolution.

Russell tells the rock media:

“This is just another way for us to express our gratitude and to show where we come from. I was gonna be an archaeologist and then I heard the Beatles’ Help! album and I was like, `That’s it. I wanna be a rock star now.’”

Let’s see Jani get through the Warrant tour first. I’m still pulling for the guy. He’s drawn a lot of heat on himself; mostly because many people out there don’t understand nor have the patience for addiction.
