About

Powerline Past
Founded in 1985, Powerline began as an undergound hard rock/heavy metal mag, distributed mostly in record stores worldwide. As it evolved a few years later, it embraced more commercial hard rock (the popular genre at the time was classified as “hair bands”) and the mag was distributed as a high-gloss publication on American newsstands with a circulation of over 100K.

By 1992 the party was over. The magazine became defunct (for various reasons). The staff went onto other jobs. And the name gathered dust. Until now.

Now resurrected, Powerline will modernize itself by covering Rock music in general (truly From Glam to Slam!), as well as reminisce with the old days in the form of time-capsuled articles and experiences.

  2. Patrick Prince!
I can’t believe I stumbled upon this site!

Powerline magazine literally changed my life. Working with you and Mike in those first few “glory years” of Powerline were memories I’ll never forget! Get a hold of me, let’s talk and maybe I can lend a hand here with the new and revived Powerline! Thank God you brought it back, we were always the best magazine around.

    Your loving ex-Powerline Managing Editor,
    Carol Anne Szel

Carol, you were one of the best!

  4. Whatever happened to Mike?

  5. Well heres a surprise. Powerline up from the ashes. I was a subscriber from the early early days when the magazine was more a fanzine(the good ol days). I was a fan of christian metal and was delighted that you let Dave Muttello have his heavenly metal column for a while. I still have those issues and refer back to them often. I was actually scouring the net to find some issues I missed and ended up on this site. If you relpy to this I have a couple of questions: How many issues of the mag came out and how long did the column on christian metal last? I want to be sure to buy up every issue I can when I come across them! Pat Prince you did good bro. I saw it go from fanzine to full fledged magazine with a wonderful layout. Hats off to you Pat and hats off to you too Dave Muttello, you guys were an inspiration.
