Today’s Megalomania Award Goes to… Brandon Flowers of The Killers
The outspoken vocalist of The Killers, Brandon Flowers, had this to say (to NME) about American musical tastes:
“[in America], people are still so obsessed with Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, those sorts of bands, that nobody else is allowed [to grow]. It’s not just us; there are a lot of great bands that have been held down or confined by the influence of these people that we’ve put up on pedestals. I’m tired of it, you know? I just want to knock them all off! And people don’t like that attitude. It’s almost like they don’t believe that it’s possible that anybody else can be the real deal. It doesn’t matter how many great songs we write or how many great shows we play. But we’re slowly chipping away at it. With this last album ['Day And Age'], there’s been a noticeable shift but we’re still nowhere near where we are in Europe.”
“those sorts of bands”? Please.
In reality (not Brandon’s reality) —whether in Europe or America — The Killers couldn’t even spitshine Led Zeppelin’s (nor Nirvana’s) “pedestal.”
btw, nice jacket, Brandon (above). On a magical mystery tour perhaps? That kind of image didn’t really even work for the Beatles… or maybe your band can knock them off their “pedestal,” too?!!

I think I need to do a revise on my much-debated Worst Bands Ever post, with the new additions of Nickelback and The Killers. Brandon Flowers has to be one of the most annoying lead vocalists ever. Ugh!

You’re stupid. Brandon is right. Everyone is always talking about how good bands like that are, that they don’t listen to artists who are just as good.

Yeah, you’re right. No one listens to artists like The Killers. They don’t get heavy rotation on Matt Pinhead’s radio station or gushing reviews on the Rolling Stone Magazine.

I am a huge fan of brandon flowers, <3 god bless him
& I have to say I love how everyone just picks at him for being "outspoken".
I mean like why do you need to discuss this with the world? He is a star, yes & that's just the way it goes but, really they are just people. & yes, he has a different opinion, doesn't everyone? You can't just pick on someone that's opinions are different then yours, okay mr.whatever your name is picking on brandon flowers because you have nothing better to do. The man makes amazing music & he isn't a fake he is real. Most people don't give time to actually see that. The killers are the greatest band in the whole world. & brandon flowers is just so amazing. :)
