Lost Rolling Stones

Lost photos of the Rolling Stones that were taken by Bob Bonis, the road manager of their first American tours, will be displayed (see a weird one above of a mid-60s concert on a high school field “gone out-of-control”) at a gallery in NYC. Called the Not Fade Away Gallery, located at 901 Broadway at 20th Street, it will feature more than 50 of the “lost” photos, some of which they shared exclusively with The NY Post.

Speaking of “lost” Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood had been given an ultimatum by the band — sober up or get out (according to the media). And The NY Post, the guardians of  trash-talk, recently labeled Keith Richards a hypocrite:

“RONNIE Wood‘s bandmates aren’t exactly leading by example. The Rolling Stone, who has a history of alcohol abuse, was told by guitarist Keith Richards to sober up or risk being dumped from the group’s upcoming US tour, according to British press reports. But it didn’t stop Richards from drinking the night away with friends at Plunge rooftop bar at the Gansevoort in Miami. Wood, 61, is still seeing Ekaterina Ivanova, the 20-year-old Russian cocktail waitress for whom he left his wife of 23 years in July.”

What BS. One night of good-time drinking cannot be compared to Wood’s existential bender. Let’s get real here, NY Post!

What to Make of the Show “One Night of Queen”

queen-large

This is how the show is promoted (and view video below) and it will be at a theater close to where I live:

One Night of Queen is a stunning live concert recreating and celebrating the music of Queen. Performed by Gary Mullen and ‘The Works,’ this show’s fantastic staging, lighting and effects will rock you – guaranteed.  Since winning the Grand Final of ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ back in 2000, as the legendary Freddie Mercury, Mullen has toured with One Night of Queen, selling out theatres and concert halls in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Holland, France, New Zealand, and now the USA.

I’m not sure what to make of this. Being such a fan of Freddie Mercury, truthfully, it kind of freaks me out… this Gary Mullen guy (above) imitating Freddie. But at the same time, I guess it’s a nice tribute. I’ve seen other tribute bands and have enjoyed them. Torn if I should check it out or not.

It can’t be any worse than seeing some of the remaining members of Queen on American Idol. That was an all-time low.

Sacred Oath’s “Blood Storm” an A+ Metal Song”

New review of Sacred Oath’s new self-titled disc is on the Powerline website, with other reviews. An excerpt:

…Sacred Oath chose not to open up the disc with their best song, “Blood Storm”. Instead it comes second, sandwiched between two lesser songs (“Paradise Lost” and “Buried Alive”). When I say “lesser,” I mean by a little bit. I still consider these songs to be very good, but “Blood Storm” is quite brilliant — an A+ in my metal grading book. Think perfect metal riffs, yes, but also a quality class vocal performance by Rob Thorne, certainly one of the best metal vocalists out there.

Axl Rose: Slash is a “Cancer” and a “Whore for the Limelight”

Yeah, right. And all this coming from what many musicians consider to be a walking-and-talking human tumor.

Axl Rose was speaking to AOL’s Spinner.com about any chance of a Guns N’ Roses reunion. You know, of the Appetite For Destruction kind. And the trash-talk express pulled up.

“I suppose Duff (McKagan) could play guitar on something somewhere but there’s zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash. In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided — and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters the better.”

And as reported on Yahoo! News:

Rose was not even a fan of Slash’s guitar playing, claiming he has lost his edge and seems to be more passionate about being “a whore for the limelight.” As for the other former bandmates, Rose said rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin‘s recent guest turns on stage with the band were fun, but that his old Indiana buddy was not the most reliable collaborator.

And on the long-suffering drummer Steven Adler collaborating with him?:

“assorted ambulance-chasing attorneys … One gig or even a couple songs could mean years of behind-the-scenes legal aftermath.”

Wow. Looks like we are in the deep end of an Axl Rose mood swing right now.

I, for one, am now glad that there will be no reunion. I’m not sure I could stand it.

Rock of Love Bus Nominated for Guiltiest Pleasure Award

Bravo TV knows guilty pleasures. Ever since they’ve (pretty much) turned their programming into the Reality TV network, they have had their share of brain drain mush and delicious candy. So if you get nominated for one of their A-List Awards in the Guilty Pleasures category, you should be honored. You KNOW you are a success in that field!

Well, Bret Michaels and his Groupie Wagon… I mean, Love Bus, get the nod for a nomination in that category. The show deserves to win. Let’s fact it, it’s the show you hate to admit you like. It is THE guilty pleasure. Now it’s your turn to vote Bret and the show in (by March 31st). The competition doesn’t come close: The Real asshole Housewives of Orange County, the Kardashians (please), and the boring bunnies of Hugh’s harem in The Girls Next Door.

It should not even be close, but you never know.

Vote Bret!

NYC Buzz: I Love Lissy

Posted in Rock Music with tags , , , , on February 25, 2009 by Patrick Prince

Village Voice praised Lissy Trullie as having “boozy energy” and the “rawest guitar work possible.” Then, a few paragraphs later, reading a quote by Lissy stating: “I don’t want to sound like a girl group. I like it raw.”

And then I thought, with this description, this could be the next PJ Harvey. Perhaps. Yes. I rushed to listen.

Well, she’s not PJ but Lissy’s damn good. Less grunge, less anger… (I don’t know what VVoice was talking about) bu, yes, raw rock and roll; clean, fashionable and raw, like a pearl, and a fantastic female rock voice.

Lissy Trullie will be a hit. Time Out New York summed her up best, way better than the Voice did: Andy Warhol would have loved Lissy. And, it seems, already, so do I.

Check her out.

Effing Lyrics: Fountains of Wayne — “Stacy’s Mom”

Posted in Rock Music with tags , , , on February 25, 2009 by Patrick Prince

A friend of mine is a successful sex addict — we’ll call him Horndog Hog — and he loved this song when it first came out. He loved the lyrics. He loved the music. He loved the video. And he went on and on about it. All the time. He didn’t know who the hell Wayne was or why they were obsessed with fountains,  nor could he give a damn about any of their other songs. This was the song that was music to his ears.

The thing is: the song sucks. But Rachel Hunter is Stacy’s mom in the video.

Fountains of Wayne is playing NYC tonight and I’m sure they will be playing this ditty for an encore (Rachel Hunter not included).

Anyway, Horndog Hog, this one’s for you.

Fountain of Wayne “Stacy’s Mom”

Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on
Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on
Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on
Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on

Stacy, can I come over after school? (after school)
We can hang around by the pool (hang by the pool)
Did your mom get back from her business trip? (business trip)
Is she there, or is she trying to give me the slip? (give me the slip)

You know, I’m not the little boy that I used to be
I’m all grown up now, baby can’t you see

Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on
She’s all I want and I’ve waited for so long
Stacy, can’t you see you’re just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong but I’m in love with Stacy’s mom

Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on
Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on

Stacy, do you remember when I mowed your lawn? (mowed your lawn)
Your mom came out with just a towel on (towel on)
I could tell she liked me from the way she stared (the way she stared)
And the way she said, “You missed a spot over there” (a spot over there)

And I know that you think it’s just a fantasy
But since your dad walked out, your mom could use a guy like me

Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on
She’s all I want, and I’ve waited so long
Stacy, can’t you see you’re just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong,
but I’m in love with Stacy’s mom

Stacy’s mom has got it goin’ on
She’s all I want and I’ve waited for so long,
Stacy can’t you see your just not the girl for me,
I know it might be wrong but oh oh
(I know it might be wrong)
I’m in love with (Stacy’s mom oh oh)
(Stacys mom oh oh)
I’m in love with Stacy’s mom

Vocalist Al Atkins to Take Credit for the Founding of Judas Priest

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on February 25, 2009 by Patrick Prince

Yes, we know. Well, maybe some don’t. It’s the dirty little secret. Al Atkins was the original singer of Judas Priest. Finally, Al, now 61, will be coming out with a tell-all book, Dawn of the Rock Gods, that tells the beginnings of the legendary Metal band, in his words:

“Music was changing so fast at that time that in 1969 I formed Judas Priest, shortly after Black Sabbath hit the scene.”

Al brought KK Downing and Ian Hill into the band. He also wrote amazing songs like “Winter,” “Never Satisfied” and the JP staple “Victim of Changes.”A+ songs in any category. Al left Judas Priest in 1973. Then came Rob Halford. The rest is history.

I will definitely be buying this book. We should give credit where credit is due. However, sorry Al, I’m quite thankful for Rob Halford.

My Chemical Romance: Send Your Red Bull!

Posted in Rock Music with tags , , , , , , on February 24, 2009 by Patrick Prince

mcr_redbullwallIn a post on the band’s blog, drummer Bob Bryar asked fans to send him Red Bull cans to help build a Red Bull “wall” under construction (right) while he is in the recording studio. He goes on to say:

this is a little nook in my wall where i am starting the “red bull wall”. i hope to have the entire wall done by the time we finish the record. we are taking donations for it. please collect every red bull can that you can find and ship to the following address. i will post pictures along with the progress. thank you!

send to:
warner brothers records
C/O jeff watson
3300 Warner Blvd
Burbank, CA 91505

Poor Jeff.

I can also see an endorsement evolving. Or a silly television ad in time for the next Super Bowl.

So drink up, and send. Don’t worry, kiddies, you can’t O.D. on too much Red Bull. (Or can you?!)

Guns N’ Roses’ Steven Adler to be Brutally Murdered in Horror Flick

Posted in Heavy Metal, Rock Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 24, 2009 by Patrick Prince

adler_dahmer

Ex – Guns N’ Roses drummer, Steven Adler, has been enlisted to be the fall guy (serial killer victim this time) in a movie about Jeffrey Dahmer, the serial killing cannibal (Movie title: “Dahmer vs. Gacy”). Adler will play a guy who gets cruised by (an irresisitable?) Dahmer and later get a drill to the head (movie still above — obviously).

It would have been an excellent creative choice if they had Axl Rose portraying Dahmer. The film is said to be an action/comedy/horror, but so was the story of GNR.

Just a thought.
