Eagles of Death Metal Frontman Talks About the Strange Experience of Being an Opening Band for Axl Rose’s Guns N’ Roses

Artisan News Service has posted a video interview with frontman Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal on YouTube …

… where Hughes explains the psychotic trip of once being an opening act for Guns N’ Roses. Axl kicked the band off the tour, and did so by making a surprising announcement during GNR’s set … calling Eagles of Death Metal, the Pigeons of Shit Metal.

All of this, for no reason whatsoever. One of Axl’s mood swings evidently.

But Jesse looked at it as an opportunity. Other musicians came out to bash Axl’s behavior and it caused positive PR for the Eagles of Death Metal.

I would even go as far as saying it was better PR than being the opening act for Axl. People who go to GNR concerts (especially before the release of Chinese Democracy) are only there see Axl and his musical creation. Everything else is irrelevant.

But unstable musicians make for interesting stories. I am constantly intrigued by what Axl, or Wino, or Doherty will do next. They may act like assholes but it makes for a good ongoing soap opera.

Below is another video of Jesse Hughes explaining some of the story on-stage.
