Adele Is Moving To New York City To Find Her Muse

The 20-year-old London-based singer-songwriter Adele has told the UK music magazine Q that she is moving to New York City to write new songs. Adele claims that she is having difficulty in finding subjects to write about for her second album. (Adele’s debut album, 19, was released last year in the UK and earlier this year in America.)
Adele told Q:
“I’ve got nothing to write about. Really. I haven’t got a personal life.
“I’ve decided to move to New York to write my album. I have to change my environment and start again.
“And, until I have something normal that your sister, auntie, cousin, or mum can relate to, I won’t be writing anything.”

I was quite surprised to read this news as Adele has struck me as a quintessentially British artist. While New York will be fortunate to have such a talented singer-songwriter as one of its residents, I wonder how her move across the pond will affect her songwriting. PJ Harvey’s time spent living in New York City resulted in the brilliant (and Mercury Music Prize-winning) album, Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea. Will becoming a Gothamite inspire Adele to an equal degree? Time will tell on that one. But she is a very unique artist, and I hope her move to the Big Apple doesn’t change that.
