Bruce Dickinson Explains Why Iron Maiden Has Stood the Test of Time

Ol’ Bruce Bruce explained to the Orange County Register why Maiden is still standing and still going strong:

“I think a lot of the bands that are around now will all name-check us as being a major influence. Because, you know, we went out and we did things our own way. We went, “Screw the Establishment, we don’t care about radio, we just want to rock the way we want to do it … But the thing I’m really proud of is that the stuff we’ve been doing really stands up to scrutiny. So many of the bands now — the young bands coming up — are much heavier than we are. We don’t have a problem with that — we’re not gonna try to out-heavy them or anything else like that. We just do what we do.”

The new Iron Maiden tour’s setlist covers the recent greatest hits record Somewhere Back In Time (1980-1989).

I’ll be sitting this tour out. I checked out the setlist and I’ve seen those songs played live numerous times. What I would like to see, is a tour of the first two albums — Ok, the first three albums (because Bruce is singing the on the third one, afterall).

The first two albums are masterpieces. Even if Bruce did not sing on them, they NEED to be recognized — even by the band!

  1. Hi there. I agree. The first 2 records were great. Would have been so nice to hear em play phantom and killers and charlotte. It does seem as if they will never be played again.

  2. Bruce Dickinson is the one guy that could take a knife into a gun fight and walk away the victor! They could have used more cowbell in the first two albums, though.

  3. Clive, I would love to see those three songs played live again. Brilliant stuff. I think those first two albums are up there in greatness with not just Metal but any rock catalog.

  4. I agree with you all about Iron Maiden and Killers. For sure check out the new CD, “A Matter of Life and Death.” It’s fricking unreal. I caught the band last Monday outside of Seattle. Posted a review and some photos at http://isorski.blogspot.com/2008/06/concert-review-iron-maiden-part-two.html. Check it out.

  5. I agree 100%, I am a big maiden fan and Isorski said the new album, A matter of Life and Death is superb.

You’d think the ideas would be drying by now but they are still going as strong as ever and admire the fact they still make the music their fans love them for.

Agree with everyone here on the past albums they were fantastic and so forth. All I can say aside from they are a truly amazing band is; Iron Maiden keep living the dream because your music is my gold!
