VINTAGE VIDEO: “Kick Out The Jams” By MC5

Amid the dross on You Tube, there are some quite incredible gems. One of those gems is the video below, a scorching live version of “Kick Out The Jams” by MC5 that was recorded at Detroit’s Wayne State University in 1970 and aired on the Detroit Tube Works TV program.

This version of “Kick Out The Jams” just sizzles. The highlight of the clip is a spectacular guitar duel between Wayne Kramer and Fred “Sonic” Smith. Oh, yeah! This is the real deal. Accept no imitations.

Enough with the intro. This clip speaks for itself. To watch one of America’s finest-ever bands, MC5, blast their way through their signature tune, “Kick Out The Jams,” click below:

The hippie chick at the end of the clip always cracks me up.

We need a band like MC5 today, don’t you think?

Hi. It’s too bad that Rob Tyner and Fred Smith have passed away. I would’ve loved to have seen a full-fledged MC5 reunion. I’m too young to have seen them back in the day.

MC5 are one of the most incredible bands I’ve ever heard. And they are criminally underrated.

I remember this well. This was an event put on by radio station WABX fm. I was one of the DJs on that station, and one of the MC’s that day. I even led the audiende in the good old “gimme an F…” cheer.
Tubeworks was our TV show, and the hippy chick was a member of the staff.

Anybody got anymore Detroit Tubeworks footage?
