Zak Starkey Leaves Oasis, So Noel Gallagher Poaches Robbie Williams’ Drummer
According to an article on NME.com, drummer Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr and also The Who’s drummer, has left Oasis. And Starkey’s departure has resulted in Noel Gallagher (pictured above) upping the ante in his feud with British singer Robbie Williams because Gallagher has convinced drummer Chris Sharrock to leave Williams’ employ to join Oasis.
Gallagher has disliked Williams for years, ever since Williams palled around with Gallagher’s brother, Oasis singer Liam, back in the mid-to-late 1990s. Noel Gallagher has even been quoted as referring to Williams as a “fat dancer.”
Williams has not been recording or touring lately because he is in a dispute with his label, EMI. Sharrock, who also drummed for The La’s, apparently got tired of waiting for Williams to settle his dispute and took the Oasis gig when it was offered to him.
Williams, a huge star in the UK, is almost unknown in America. He even relocated to Los Angeles to try to jump start his career in the States to no avail. I’m sure that the UK music press will soon be on his doorstep to ask what he thinks of his drummer defecting to the Gallagher Brothers’ camp. It should make for some interesting copy.

Apparently, Starkey and Noel Gallagher have been having a lot of arguments and disagreements. While Starkey played on the upcoming Oasis album, he won’t be playing with them in the future.
