Forgotten States

Connecticut brings new meaning to the word Passover. As far as concert tours are concerned, the Nutmeg State is often passed over by many a rock band, whether it be a legend or an indie. Occasionally, for instance, there will be a club gig at Toad’s Place in New Haven or an arena show at Mohegan Sun Casino. And those events are often treated as sacred performances. But for the most part the arena shows go to New York City or Boston, and the club acts go to places like, say, Brooklyn, NY.

Some Connecticut music lovers have struck back, enough to organize three days of music called Not Brooklyn Fest 2008 in Danbury. The festival started Friday and ends Sunday, with such great acts as Cursive and Dead Meadow.

There are quite a few states that have the same problem as Connecticut, I’m sure. Hopefully, a festival can be organized in each of these lone states for both a protest and celebration of rock music.

No offense to Brooklyn but the Not Brooklyn Fest is a great idea. May it be successful and catch on.
