Is it really worth $500?
You have to be a really big Who fan to shell out 500 U.S. dollars for this autographed, personalized tour case from the Who at Music.com.
Essentially, it’s a box set of the entire 2004 tour (18 shows) in a initialized small case. The replica tour case holds all those discs, a mini tour program, and an autographed card from Pete and Roger.
Of course, these are limited editions. The cases have sold before and — supposedly — have gone up in price (better cross-check eBay for that one!)
For $500 I want front row and a backstage pass to see Townshend personally. Forget the autograph card.
Here’s a sample disc set list from a 2004:
May 22 2004 show at Madison Square Garden, NY, NY
I Can’t Explain
Substitute
Anyway Anyhow Anywhere
Who Are You
Behind Blue Eyes
Baba O’Riley
5.15

Naked Eye
Real Good Looking Boy
You Better You Bet
My Generation /Young Man Blues (part)/ Old Red Wine

Even though, I was there to experience The Who in 2004, I’ll stick with another Who DVD: live in Chicago, 1979. I got that one Best Buy for 30 bucks.

I can’t see spending that type of money on something like that. The set lists for most of the shows on the 2004 tour were nearly identical. Does anybody really need 18 different versions of “Baba O’Riley”?
I saw two of the shows on that tour–a show in March at Royal Albert Hall in London and the Madison Square Garden show metioned in Pat’s post. i’ve got the CDs from those two shows. I can’t really see the need for CDs of 16 shows that I didn’t see.
Fans would be better off spending $20 on the DVD of The Kids Are Alright.
