VINTAGE VIDEO: “Calling All Girls” By Hilly Michaels

The other day, I was thinking about some of the videos that MTV was showing at the time that the channel launched in August 1981. (You know, when the “M” in “MTV” actually stood for “music” and not “moron.”) Anyway, MTV was then airing videos by several artists that have since been more or less forgotten. (Does anybody remember Donnie Iris? How about Joe “King” Carassco?)

One of those “forgotten” artists is Hilly Michaels, whose “Calling All Girls” video was in heavy rotation on MTV around the time that MTV signed on. The video was made in 1980, and it looks it. (Check the hairstyles on the women in the video!)

I never thought that I would be nostalgic for Hilly Michaels’ music, but after watching the clip on You Tube, I started to recall what I was doing in school at the time that the video was on MTV, and I thought about some people I knew then whom I hadn’t thought about in years. Some weird, wild stuff, as Johnny Carson used to say.
