Under Doctor’s Orders, Amy Winehouse Scraps Remaining 2007 Dates
Amy Winehouse has cancelled her remaining tour dates for this year. Winehouse has had an up-and-down 2007. She won critical and popular praise for her spectacular Back To Black album and fantastic live performances earlier in the year. However, she suffered a drug overdose during the summer, delivered a series of shambolic performances, cancelled her US tour, and saw her husband carted off to jail for attempting to pervert the course of justice. Winehouse recently gave a performance in Birmingham, England that was apparently so awful that scores of fans walked out and quite a few contacted the promoter demanding a refund. On the subject of Winehouse’s tour cancellation, Paul Stokes, news editor of the UK music publication NME, told BBC 6 Music, “It just sounds like the shows have been really awful, it sounds like the fans have turned against her. There was a lot of booing, I think it had become a bit of a joke—all this ‘Wait till my husband gets out of prison’ business which she was saying on stage. So I think she has probably done the right thing by calling it off before it gets any worse.”
Winehouse’s camp have posted a statement regarding the cancellations on her My Space page. It reads:
Amy Winehouse has cancelled all remaining live and promotional appearances for the remainder of the year on the instruction of her doctor. The rigours involved in touring and the intense emotional strain that Amy has been under in recent weeks have taken their toll. In the interests of her health and well-being, Amy has been ordered to take complete rest and deal with her health issues.
Amy says, “I can’t give it my all onstage without my Blake. I’m so sorry but I don’t want to do the shows half-heartedly, I love singing. My husband is everything to me and without him it’s just not the same.”
Refunds for the remaining dates will be issued from the point of purchase.
Her family has requested that the media respect Amy’s privacy at this time. There will be no further comment.

i love these euphemisms like “health issues”. i remeber kurt cobains “stomach problems”. this chick is gonna take the same route as him if shes not careful. she should quit the biz and lead a nice quiet life somewhere. the world will live without her “gift” but she may not live with it.

I guess English pop-princesses don’t have the nurturing influence of the Disney Corporation and American Idol. If Simon Cowell had stayed in England, maybe this girl’s life would have been different. Which reminds me, has anybody heard the rumor the Britney is pregnant with Johnny Rotten’s child?
